2. Subject
The work submitted shall consist of photographs taken in Spain in the last 30 years, reflecting the events and the social, cultural and economic changes that have taken place in the last three decades. The Competition aims to select photographs illustrating events of all kinds in Spain during a decisive stage in the country’s recent history. The contents of the photographs may therefore be as wide-ranging as their creators wish, providing they are confined to the time period referred to, focusing on natural, rural or urban landscapes, people or objects that in some way symbolize or reflect the events of the last thirty years.
3. Presentation
Each entrant shall choose to submit applications by email or by ordinary mail:
a) In the case of applications by ordinary mail:
- A maximum of 3 photographs.
- Photographs must be sent in printed format, size A4, 20 x 30 cm. The back of each photograph must be labelled with the title or description of the work, and the photographer’s full name and contact details.
- A brief descriptive text for each photograph entered.
- The Entry Form, duly completed and signed (available at www.hsbc.es).
- A CD with the photographs in high definition JPEG format, if possible with the title, and a file containing the entrant’s details: full name, address, e-mail and telephone number, with an introductory text on the work.
Entries shall be submitted by ordinary mail to:

The postmark date will be taken as the official delivery date of each entry. Mailing costs shall be payable by entrants.
b) In the case of applications submitted by email:
- A maximum of 3 photographs
- Files must be in JPG format
- A minimum size of 1.024 x 1.024 pixels
- Maximum size of the file should be 5 Megabytes (Mb)
- A minimum resolution of 240 pixels per inch
- A brief descriptive text for each photograph entered
- The Entry Form, duly completed and signed (available at www.hsbc.es)

4. Schedule
14 January 2011: Opening date. The Entry Form will be posted on www.hsbc.es.
15 April 2011: last day for the submission of entries.
November 2011: Awards ceremony. Exhibition of the winning photographs and presentation of the commemorative book.
All of the photographs selected will also be shown on the HSBC website.
5. Prizes
Three prizes will be awarded for the best photographs submitted. The prize money is as follows:
1st Prize: €5,000
2nd Prize: €4,000
3rd Prize: €3,000
The bank will also publish a book containing outstanding photographs entered in the competition. This book will be published for commemorative purposes only and will not be on sale to the general public. The bank will decide on the distribution of the book at its own discretion.
6. Undertakings
The bank will enter into a contract with both the winning entrants and those whose photographs are selected for inclusion in the commemorative book. Under this contract, the said entrant will assign all copyrights* free of charge to HSBC Bank Plc Sucursal en España, permitting the bank to use the photographs at no cost both in events related with the HSBC Photography Competition: “30 years of Spanish history", and in www.hsbc.es and the book with the selected photographs.
The bank shall not be liable for any third-party image rights in relation to the photographs entered in the competition. Those entrants who submit photographs of people, properties, etc. requiring express authorization for the use of their image shall be required to submit such authorizations together with the works entered, in accordance with the form provided by the bank. In the absence of such authorization, the bank will not accept the photographs entered and shall be exempt from any criminal or civil liability that may result from the illicit use of the said images by the entrant.
The photographs entered shall be the absolute personal creations of the entrants and, therefore, original. Entrants shall warrant authorship and shall be liable for any claims that may be brought by third parties in relation to the contents or ownership of the photographs.
The photographs sent to HSBC Bank Plc, Sucursal en España, for entry in the Photography Competition: “30 years of Spanish history” will not be returned either while the Competition is in progress or at the conclusion of the same.
*Exclusivity will not be required for the assignment of copyright.
7. Data Protection
In accordance with prevailing Spanish Personal Data Protection legislation, we hereby inform you that your personal data will be included in an automated data file owned by HSBC Bank plc, Spanish Branch and kept under our responsibility.
As a participant in the competition, you give your consent and authorize HSBC to treat the personal data provided for the purposes of managing and holding the “30 Years of Spanish History” photography Competition, including consent to the international assignment and transfer of your data to all entities of the HSBC Group both within Spain and outside Spain to the extent necessary for the aforementioned purposes, whether or not such entities offer a level of protection equivalent to that established under Spanish law.
You are responsible for the contents of the photographs submitted to the Competition, and HSBC may utilize and treat your data and images on the assumption that you accept and consent to such utilization and treatment, having entered the Competition.
If you wish to present photographs of children, please proceed as follows:
- In the case of minors over 14 years of age, you must request their own consent.
- In the case of minors below 14 years of age, you must seek the consent of parents or wards.
In both cases, you must provide the Bank with such consent.
You may exercise your rights of access, rectification, cancellation and opposition in writing in a letter, accompanied by your Identity Card, addressed to HSBC Bank Plc, Spanish Branch, Customer Service Office, Plaza Pablo Ruiz Picasso 1, Torre Picasso planta 33, 28020 Madrid, or by e-mail addressed to atencioncliente@hsbc.com
Group HSBC at a global level owns an image bank itself, which in any case the photographs received will be used in commercial benefit of the entity.
In the event that HSBC would like to use the photographs for any other purpose outside the contest will apply the existing law and the bank will contact the author of the picture.
